A Diószeg native and an academic painter graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. After his studies, Gyula traveled around Europe and he met in Paris with left-wing artists such as Picasso. After surviving the war in Budapest he later settled in Bratislava and dedicated his remaining years to art and journalism. He was one of the founding members of Csemadok.
